Eudynamys scolopaceus

Asian Koel is a cuckoo of the Indian subcontinent, China and Southeast Asia. Like many of its relatives it is a brood parasite, laying its eggs in the nests of crows and other hosts, which then raise the young. Unusually among cuckoos, adults are largely fruit-eaters. The name is an imitation of its call (Wikipedia, general species account). It belongs to a superspecies with the black-billed and Pacific koels, which are sometimes treated as subspecies, and it features widely in Indian, Pakistani and Nepali poetry (Wikipedia, general species account). (Wikipedia, general species account).

Its recorded distribution includes the Indian subcontinent, China, and Southeast Asia. The species has variations within its wide range with several island populations and a number of taxonomic variations have been suggested. They are very vocal during the breeding season (March to August in the Indian Subcontinent), with a range of different calls. Individuals have great potential in colonizing new areas, and were among the pioneer birds to colonize the volcanic island of Krakatau. (Wikipedia, general species account).
