Motacilla tschutschensis

Eastern Yellow Wagtail is a small wagtail that breeds in the eastern Palearctic and Alaska and migrates to South Asia and Australia. It was usually classified as a subspecies of the western yellow wagtail until it was split in 2003, when genetic data showed that grouping did not include all descendants of a common ancestor, since it left out the citrine wagtail. Four subspecies are recognised, and the species name comes from the Chukchi Peninsula in eastern Russia (Wikipedia, general species account). (Wikipedia, general species account).

Most migrate to south-east Asia and Australia in the winter but the non-breeding range extends as far west as eastern India and Sri Lanka. Vagrant individuals can occur away the winter quarters at migration time. The species is a small passerine in the wagtail family Motacillidae, which also includes the pipits and longclaws. It was formerly usually classified as a subspecies of the western yellow wagtail. (Wikipedia, general species account).
