Dicaeum maugei
Habitat
Lowland and montane forest
Range
Lesser Sundas and nearby islands
The red-chested or blue-cheeked flowerpecker is Dicaeum maugei, a species divided into several island forms. Authoritative checklists place the nominate form from Savu east to Timor, Roma and Damar, with other subspecies on Penida, Lombok, Salayar, Tanahjampea, Moa and Babar. The form splendidum reaches Salayar off south-west Sulawesi, but the species is not a mainland Sulawesi endemic (Trust for Avian Systematics).
Species accounts associate it with moist lowland and montane forest. Detailed open information on diet and reproduction was not available, so those traits are omitted rather than generalized from the flowerpecker family. The site's regional placement needs review: the scientific name is valid, but its documented distribution is centred on the Lesser Sundas, with the closest listed populations on Salayar and Tanahjampea south of Sulawesi (Birds of the World; Trust for Avian Systematics).
