The black-naped fruit dove is a medium-sized green pigeon up to about 24 cm long, also known as the black-headed fruit dove. Males have a pale grey head, black nape, yellow throat and golden-yellow and pink feathers beneath the tail, set against a mainly green body. Females and juveniles are green throughout, making the sexes strikingly different. Both sexes have a yellowish bill and iris (Wikipedia account; BirdForum general species account).
Across Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines it inhabits lowland and hill forest; its Indonesian range includes Java, the Lesser Sundas and Sulawesi. It feeds chiefly on fruit, including figs and berries. The usual clutch is a single white egg. Although zoo accounts describe chick development, the sources opened did not establish whether those timings represent wild birds throughout the range, so no incubation or fledging period is given here (Wikipedia and BirdForum general accounts; Oregon Zoo species profile).
