Flying insects and other small arthropods
Habitat
Lowland and montane forest, undergrowth, forest edge and wooded plantations
Range
Sulawesi, Togian Islands, Salayar and Tanahjampea
The Sulawesi blue flycatcher is an Indonesian Cyornis with four recognised subspecies. The nominate form inhabits montane Sulawesi; omississimus occurs in the Togian Islands; peromissus is from Salayar; and djampeanus occurs on Tanahjampea. Some authorities raise the last form to species rank as the Tanahjampea blue flycatcher, making the geographic treatment important when comparing checklists (Wikipedia account citing the IOC World Bird List and the 2020 Togian taxonomic description).
Across this complex the bird uses moist lowland and montane forest, including dense undergrowth and forest edge, and may enter secondary woodland or plantations with adequate tree cover. It usually forages alone or in pairs, sallying from a perch for flying insects and also gleaning small arthropods from foliage in the lower and middle forest levels. The accessible sources did not provide dependable nest, clutch or incubation details (Birding Sulawesi general account; Wikipedia habitat summary).
