Gallinula chloropus

It lives around well-vegetated marshes, ponds, canals and other wetlands, and is generally one of the most common Old World rails. It is absent from the polar regions and many tropical rainforests (Wikipedia, general species account). The New World common gallinule and the Tristan and Gough moorhens were once treated as the same species but are now split because of genetic, bill-shield and vocal differences (Wikipedia, general species account). (Wikipedia, general species account).

The Eurasian moorhen, or common moorhen, is a rail found across many parts of Africa, Europe and Asia. This species is not found in the polar regions or many tropical rainforests. This species is not usually found in what is now called moorland. Another old name, waterhen, is more descriptive of the bird's habitat. The common moorhen gives a wide range of gargling calls and will emit loud hisses when threatened. (Wikipedia, general species account).
