Range

Size

About 20cm

The pygmy cuckooshrike is a roughly 20 cm Sulawesi endemic. Males have dark bluish-grey upperparts, black forehead, face, throat and primary feathers, with bluish-grey tertials and wing coverts. The accessible account did not provide a full female description. It is monotypic and is the only species in Celebesica. Molecular work showing that the old broad genus Coracina was not a single evolutionary lineage led to its placement in the resurrected genus (BirdForum; Wikipedia taxonomic account).

Its range covers northern, central and southeastern Sulawesi, where it inhabits high montane forest, generally above 1,400 m. It feeds chiefly on insects and forages in the canopy, often with mixed-species flocks. The sources opened did not provide a verified nest description, clutch, incubation period or juvenile plumage. Those details remain omitted rather than extrapolated from related cuckooshrikes, whose forest level and breeding biology may differ (BirdForum species account citing Handbook of the Birds of the World).
