Phylloscopus nesophilus
Diet
Small invertebrates gleaned from vegetation
Habitat
Mid-elevation and montane forest
Range
Sulawesi, Indonesia
The Sulawesi leaf warbler is an active Phylloscopus endemic to Sulawesi. It was formerly combined with the Lompobattang leaf warbler under the name Phylloscopus sarasinorum, but vocal and taxonomic work supports recognising P. nesophilus separately. Compared with the Lompobattang species, it lacks the pale central crown stripe and wingbar and has less white in the outer tail. Older field records under sarasinorum may therefore include either species (BirdForum; Forktail taxonomic study; Wikipedia).
It inhabits mid-elevation and montane forest and feeds on small invertebrates, gleaning beetles, caterpillars, spiders and larvae from leaves and bark crevices. Field work on Gunung Tumpu recorded the broader leaf-warbler complex commonly around 1,400–2,400 m, although those observations predate or do not always apply the present split. The accessible sources describe breeding biology as poorly known and give no verified nest, clutch or incubation period (Treubia survey; general species review).
