Eutropis rudis
Range
Malesia, the Philippines and parts of western Indonesia including Sulawesi
Size
6.7–12.3cm snout–vent length
The rudis sun skink, or rough mabuya, is Eutropis rudis. Adults measure about 6.7–12.3 cm from snout to vent. Three keels run along each dorsal scale, the lower eyelid is scaly, and distinct dark bands extend along the sides. Other diagnostic counts include 32–34 scale rows at midbody and 18–20 lamellae beneath the fourth toe (Reptile Database diagnosis; Amarasinghe and colleagues 2020).
Its range includes Borneo, Sumatra, Java, Sulawesi, parts of Malaysia and Brunei, and the Philippines. The species lays eggs, and its Latin name rudis means rough, referring to the keeled back scales. Modern revision separated it from several similar Eutropis formerly combined with it. The opened account did not provide direct habitat, diet, activity, clutch size or incubation values applicable across this broad range (Reptile Database).
