Basic stats

Range

Sulawesi, Indonesia

Size

8.4–11.9cm snout–vent length

The Sulawesi bloodsucker is a moderate-sized arboreal agamid with a snout–vent length of about 8.4–11.9 cm. It has a small eardrum less than half the eye's diameter, a small throat pouch and a crest of upright flattened scales on the neck. The dorsal crest is lower and continues to the tail base, while the belly scales are large and strongly keeled (Reptile Database diagnosis).

Bronchocela celebensis is endemic to Sulawesi and lays eggs. It was once placed in Calotes before later classification returned it to Bronchocela. The scientific name refers to Celebes, Sulawesi's former name. The accessible taxonomic account provides detailed scalation but no direct diet, activity, habitat-height, clutch size or incubation data, so those aspects are not inferred from better-known Bronchocela species (Reptile Database; 2024 taxonomic revision citation).
