Sulawesi and nearby islands, Indonesia

The silver-tipped imperial pigeon is a relatively large Ducula endemic to Sulawesi and smaller neighbouring islands. It is also called the white imperial pigeon or white-tipped imperial pigeon. Its pale plumage recalls the pied imperial pigeon, and it has sometimes been treated as that species’ subspecies, but the silver-tipped bird has grey-silver flight feathers, a yellowish bill tip and black spotting near the vent. ITIS recognises Ducula luctuosa as a valid species (Wikipedia account; Integrated Taxonomic Information System).

Across its range it uses forest, woodland and mangrove, while ecological datasets also record farmland, copses and forest edge. The same syntheses classify it as a diurnal, fruit- and nectar-eating bird that gleans food in vegetation. As an imperial pigeon it is primarily associated with fruiting trees, but no species-specific list of fruits was available in the sources opened. Recordings document its voice in Sulawesi lowlands and hills; verified nest, clutch and incubation details were not found (Oiseaux.net ecological synthesis).
