Habitat

Small forest streams and adjacent closed-canopy forest

Range

Sulawesi and nearby offshore islands

The Sulawesi white-lipped frog is a ranid endemic to Sulawesi and several nearby islands. The site's scientific name, Hylarana mocquardii, reflects an older combination; current catalogues place the species as Chalcorana mocquardi. That change concerns its generic classification rather than a newly described animal, and both names refer to the same nominal species in modern references (Amphibian Species of the World; Chalcorana mocquardi species account).

Species accounts associate adults with small forest streams and the surrounding vegetation, including some modified forest where a reasonably closed canopy remains. Adults may range away from the immediate water's edge, whereas larvae develop in quieter water, including side pools and deeper slow-flowing stream sections. Detailed measurements, diet and breeding timing were not available in the opened sources, so those values are deliberately omitted rather than inferred from related Chalcorana frogs (Chalcorana mocquardi species account).
