The Talaud kingfisher is a Todiramphus restricted to Indonesia’s Talaud Islands north of Sulawesi. Older publications sometimes spell the genus Todirhamphus, but the accepted combination is Todiramphus enigma. It can overlap in general appearance with the collared kingfisher, and an experienced regional observer cautions that photographs away from Talaud cannot safely be assigned on a slightly shorter-looking bill alone. Range, voice and habitat are therefore important parts of identification (Wikipedia account; BirdForum identification discussion).
The verified habitat summary covers moist lowland forest and river margins. Field discussion describes resident pairs present throughout the year and no evidence of seasonal movement, while also noting distinctive calls and habitat relative to collared kingfisher. A 2017 Talaud-region survey lists the species from the archipelago but gives little behavioural detail. The sources opened did not establish diet, nest, clutch, incubation or measurements, so those facts remain unstated rather than inferred from other Todiramphus kingfishers (Biodiversitas regional survey; BirdForum discussion).
