Trimeresurus fasciatus

Basic stats

Range

Tanah Jampea, Indonesia

Size

Type specimen 45.5cm

Trimeresurus fasciatus is a venomous pit viper restricted to Tanah Jampea, between Sulawesi and Flores. The type specimen was 45.5 cm long, including an 8 cm tail. Diagnostic scale counts include 21 dorsal rows at midbody, 158–163 ventrals depending on sex, 61–65 subcaudals and usually nine or ten upper lip scales. No named subspecies are currently recognised (Wikipedia general account).

The English names banded pit viper and banded tree viper refer to the species' patterned appearance, although the opened text supplied scale data rather than a complete colour description. Its very limited documented range is the same island given as the type locality. Habitat, prey, activity, reproductive mode, litter or clutch size and seasonal biology were not established by the opened sources and are deliberately omitted (Wikipedia account; Reptile Database taxonomy record).
