Males to 1.61m; females to 1.82m including tail
The Tanahjampea cat snake is a large, heavy Boiga with a high, laterally compressed body and an enlarged central row of dorsal scales. Documented males reach about 1.61 m including the tail and females about 1.82 m. The head is notably broad. Adults are plain grey above and white below, with narrow dark edging on individual scales and clearly outlined lip and temporal shields (Reptile Database diagnosis).
This egg-laying snake is known from Tanah Jampea in South Sulawesi Province, the island that supplied both its scientific name and type locality. A global analysis classifies it as fully arboreal. The original description was based on material collected in 1999, and later genetic work places it close to Boiga melanota. The opened sources provided no species-specific diet, clutch size or incubation period (Reptile Database; Orlov and Ryabov 2002).
