Calamaria boesemani
Habitat
Forest; terrestrial and semifossorial
Range
Eastern Sulawesi, Indonesia
Boeseman's reed snake is a small calamariine colubrid from eastern Sulawesi. Its eye is unusually large for Calamaria, almost one and a half times the distance from the eye to the mouth, and the mental scale does not touch the front chin shields. These head-scale characters, together with details of the lip scales and teeth, distinguish it from similar reed snakes (Reptile Database diagnosis; Wikipedia general account).
The species is associated with forest and is described as terrestrial and partly burrowing. It lays eggs. The type material came from Pinapuan near Luwuk and Biak near the tip of Sulawesi's eastern peninsula. Its name honours Dutch ichthyologist Marinus Boeseman. No dependable species-specific diet, activity schedule, adult length, clutch size or incubation period was available in the opened accounts (Reptile Database; Wikipedia general account).
