Calamaria muelleri
Habitat
Forest leaf litter; terrestrial
Range
Sulawesi, Indonesia
Size
Males 11.6–26.2cm; females 13.6–35.5cm
Mueller's reed snake is a small Sulawesi endemic whose females grow longer than males. Recorded total lengths are 13.6–35.5 cm for females and 11.6–26.2 cm for males. An apparent 1,900 mm length printed for the holotype in the original description is treated as a typographical error, probably intended as 190 mm, rather than evidence for an exceptionally large animal (Wikipedia general account).
The species lives in forest, where it moves and forages terrestrially through leaf litter. It reproduces by laying eggs. The name commemorates Swiss herpetologist Fritz Müller. Direct species-level information remains limited: the opened sources did not give a verified diet, time of activity, clutch size or incubation period. Those omissions are retained rather than filling the account with habits drawn from other reed snakes (Wikipedia general account; Reptile Database taxonomy record).
