Habitat
Fully arboreal
Range
Ambon and Sulawesi
The Moluccan flying snake is an arboreal colubrid recorded from Ambon and Sulawesi. Two named forms have been recognised: the nominate form and C. r. viridis, the latter associated with Sulawesi, although the database notes that its status is unclear because its sole type specimen was destroyed during the Second World War. The species name refers to a rose-red side or rib (Reptile Database).
The lectotype of the nominate form was a female measuring 1.49 m. The species lays eggs and a global snake-habits analysis classifies it as fully arboreal. The accessible source confirms its placement among flying snakes but does not provide species-specific observations of gliding performance, prey, clutch size or incubation. Those familiar genus-level behaviours are therefore not expanded into unsupported claims about this particular species (Reptile Database; Harrington and colleagues 2018 citation).
