Coelognathus flavolineatus

Basic stats

Range

Mainland Southeast Asia and western Indonesia, including Sulawesi

The black copper rat snake, also called the yellow-striped snake, is Coelognathus flavolineatus. Older works often placed it in Elaphe, while numerous nineteenth-century combinations also appear in its synonymy. The current name refers to the yellow line on the back. Its broad range covers mainland Southeast Asia and western Indonesia, including Sulawesi, Sumatra, Borneo, Java and Bali (Reptile Database; Wikipedia general account).

The species lays eggs. The Reptile Database notes its similarity to Coelognathus erythrurus and flags several old island reports as unconfirmed or taxonomically unresolved. The accessible record did not expose its full diagnosis and provided no species-wide habitat, diet, activity, adult length, clutch size or incubation. These are omitted because descriptions from particular populations cannot safely be applied to Sulawesi without a direct source (Reptile Database taxonomic account).
