Cylindrophis isolepis
Range
Tanah Jampea, Indonesia
Size
Type specimen 43cm
The Jampea Island pipe snake is known from Tanah Jampea. The type specimen measured 43 cm. Its upper surface is black, each scale finely edged in whitish, while the belly carries two alternating rows of large white blotches and the underside of the tail is orange. Six upper lip scales are present, with the third and fourth entering the eye (Wikipedia species account; ITIS taxonomy record).
The name isolepis means equal scale and refers to the ventral scales not being enlarged relative to the dorsals. The description records 22 scale rows around the body and five subcaudals. Beyond that museum-based morphology and its island range, the opened sources did not establish habitat, diet, daily activity, reproduction or development. These unknowns are retained rather than borrowing habits from other Asian pipe snakes (Wikipedia general account; Reptile Database catalogue).
