The reddish rat snake, Coelognathus erythrurus, is a colubrid distributed in the Philippines and Indonesia. Four subspecies are recognised in the opened accounts, including C. e. celebensis, the name associated with Sulawesi. The species was originally described in the nineteenth century and has also appeared under the genus Elaphe in older literature. ITIS currently treats Coelognathus erythrurus as a valid species (Wikipedia general account; ITIS).
Rodents are directly listed as prey for the species. The accessible sources did not supply a reliable species-wide adult length, detailed habitat, activity cycle, reproduction, clutch size or incubation period, and Philippine records are not presented as evidence for Sulawesi behaviour. The account therefore limits itself to verified taxonomy, broad range and diet while recognising that the named geographic forms may differ in appearance and ecology (Wikipedia general account; Reptile Database reference list).
