Calamaria banggaiensis
Range
Banggai Island, east of Central Sulawesi
The Banggai reed snake was described in 2009 from a female collected near Desa Banggai at roughly 5 m elevation. It lacks a preocular scale, has five upper and five lower labials, and the first lower-labial pair meets behind the mental scale. Smooth dorsal scales form 13 rows around the body, while the documented ventral count ranges from 157 to 198 (Reptile Database diagnosis; Koch and colleagues 2009).
The known locality lies on Banggai Island east of Central Sulawesi, and the scientific epithet banggaiensis refers directly to that type area. The account records 20–25 divided scales beneath the tail and a single anal plate, characters used with the head scalation to diagnose the species. The opened sources did not establish habitat, diet, activity, reproduction or a population-wide size range, so none is supplied here (Reptile Database; original-description citation).
