Range

Peleng, Banggai Archipelago

The Banggai jungle flycatcher is an Old World flycatcher endemic to Peleng in Indonesia's Banggai Archipelago. It was originally placed in Rhinomyias and consequently appears in older literature as Rhinomyias pelingensis; modern world lists use Cyornis pelingensis. The species is a distinct island taxon rather than a regional name for a widespread blue flycatcher (IOC World Bird List; Vaurie 1952).

Available species accounts associate it with moist lowland forest on Peleng. Beyond that habitat and distribution, published open summaries offer little dependable detail on plumage variation, food, foraging height or breeding. Those gaps are retained here rather than filled from other Cyornis species. For field records, both location and voice-supported identification are important because several closely related jungle flycatchers can be unobtrusive and superficially similar (Birds of the World account index; IOC World Bird List).
