The black-crowned white-eye is an Indonesian Zosterops songbird. Its current species limits have changed repeatedly: the Sangihe and Seram white-eyes were formerly included, the black-fronted white-eye is still combined in some treatments, and one Sulawesi population has been proposed as the separate Zosterops subatrifrons. These shifting boundaries mean that older distribution, plumage and ecological statements cannot automatically be assigned to the present species concept (Wikipedia taxonomic account).

The verified habitat description covers moist lowland and montane forest. A regional field-guide treatment under the broader black-fronted white-eye name also records forest edge, regrowth and gardens, with birds using the canopy around 400–1,450 m, but that account includes populations outside Sulawesi and is not used to expand the displayed habitat. Species-specific diet, measurements, nest, clutch and incubation information were not available in the sources opened (Wikipedia account; Mimika regional bird guide for comparison).
