The black-ringed white-eye, also called the lemon-throated white-eye, is a small Zosterops endemic to Sulawesi. Its scientific name Zosterops anomalus is accepted by current avian checklists. As its English names indicate, the eye-ring and yellowish throat are important identification areas, but exact plumage descriptions should be checked against photographs or a current field guide because Sulawesi supports several closely similar white-eyes (IOC World Bird List; Macaulay Library).

Published summaries associate the species with moist lowland forest in south-western Sulawesi, including the Makassar region reflected in its Indonesian name. The opened sources did not provide secure species-level figures for size, diet, nesting or clutch size, so none are inferred from other Zosterops. Locality is especially important when identifying this bird because multiple white-eye taxa on Sulawesi have undergone taxonomic revision and can share green, yellow and white plumage elements (U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service; IOC World Bird List).
