Ducula rosacea
Diet
Fruit and berries, especially figs
Habitat
Lowland forest, mangroves, scrub, plantations and farmland to 930m
Range
Indonesian islands and Timor-Leste
The pink-headed imperial pigeon is a medium-to-large Ducula with a pink head and neck, pale grey body and darker greenish-grey wings and tail. Similar green imperial pigeons lack the pink head and have brighter green upperparts without the weak pale-grey collar. The sexes are broadly alike, while juveniles are duller and browner. ITIS recognises Ducula rosacea as a valid species (eBird/Merlin; fruit-pigeon profile; Integrated Taxonomic Information System).
Its scattered island range lies in Indonesia and Timor-Leste rather than only the Lesser Sundas. It is resident in lowland forest, mangroves, moist scrub, plantations and farmland, mostly from sea level to 930 m. The diet is primarily fruit and berries, especially figs and other forest fruits, making the bird a seed disperser as it moves among fruiting trees. The sources opened did not provide verified nest, clutch or incubation details (BirdLife DataZone ecology; published diet paper index; general species profile).
