Ramphotyphlops olivaceus
Range
Borneo, Sulawesi, Sangihe, Seram, Ambon, Misool, Philippines and Solomon Islands
Clutch size
Egg-laying; clutch size unknown
The olive blind snake is a member of Typhlopidae currently called Ramphotyphlops olivaceus. John Edward Gray described it in 1845 as Onychophis olivaceus, and it later passed through several combinations before placement in Ramphotyphlops. Its small eyes and compact head place it among the typical blind snakes, but detailed identification requires scale characters not reproduced in the accessible database account (Gray 1845; Reptile Database).
Its documented distribution is broad and insular, covering Borneo, Sulawesi, Sangihe, Seram, Ambon, Misool, parts of the Philippines and the Solomon Islands. Older Australian records are regarded as erroneous. Reptile Database records egg-laying reproduction but supplies no clutch size, while the sources opened provide no reliable species-level diet or habitat account. These omissions reflect limited evidence rather than an assumed resemblance to other blind snakes (McDowell 1974; Reptile Database).
