Ramphotyphlops conradi

Basic stats

Habitat

Forest; terrestrial and fossorial

Range

Sulawesi, Indonesia

Size

Holotype 17.5cm

Conrad's worm snake is a small blind snake endemic to Sulawesi. It is uniformly brown above and paler below, while the head and tail tip are white. Eighteen scales encircle the body at midbody, and the holotype measured 17.5 cm including its tail. The species is currently placed in Ramphotyphlops, although older works listed it as Typhlops conradi (Wikipedia general account; Reptile Database).

The snake inhabits forest and lives terrestrially with a burrowing habit. It lays eggs. The type locality was recorded simply as northern Celebes, the former name for Sulawesi, and the species name honours German captain Paul Conrad. No direct information on prey, soil depth, daily or seasonal activity, clutch size or incubation was present in the opened sources, so these aspects remain unfilled (Wikipedia general account; Reptile Database).
