Sphenomorphus variegatus
Range
Sulawesi and parts of the southern Philippines
Sphenomorphus variegatus is a forest-skink relative recorded from Sulawesi and several southern Philippine islands. Its long nomenclatural history includes placement in Hinulia, Lygosoma and Otosaurus before the current combination. The name variegatus refers to a variable pattern of irregular patches or bands. The accessible database withheld the detailed diagnostic account, so colour and measurements are not reconstructed from Philippine material (Reptile Database).
Egg-laying is listed through phylogenetic inference rather than a direct breeding observation. Sulawesi survey records are sometimes qualified as Sphenomorphus cf. variegatus, indicating uncertainty over identification or species boundaries. The opened sources supplied no dependable species-wide habitat, diet, activity, adult length, clutch size or incubation. This account therefore keeps the confirmed broad range and taxonomic caveat visible instead of presenting uncertain local traits as settled (Reptile Database).
