Eutropis macrophthalma
Range
Northern Sulawesi and Buton Island
Size
Females 10.5–13.6cm; males 11.7–14.3cm snout–vent length
The Sulawesi mabuya is a comparatively large Eutropis with mature females measuring about 10.5–13.6 cm and males 11.7–14.3 cm from snout to vent. It has a tapered, rounded snout, conspicuously large eyes, three strong and two or three weaker keels on dorsal and side scales, and 25–27 scale rows around the middle of the body, useful diagnostic traits (Reptile Database diagnosis).
Eutropis macrophthalma is recorded from northern Sulawesi and Buton Island. The Buton form was described as E. grandis in 2007 and placed in synonymy with E. macrophthalma in a 2018 revision; the latter name refers to its large eyes. Egg-laying is inferred phylogenetically rather than directly documented. The opened sources provide no verified diet, activity, clutch or incubation details (Reptile Database; cited systematic revisions).
