Northern Sulawesi

Draco spilonotus is a flying lizard of northern Sulawesi. Males have vivid yellow, orange or red upper gliding membranes, sometimes with brown spots near the body, plus a short rounded yellow throat fan. Both sexes carry a small dark nape spot and dark, pale-edged eye-spots above the eyes. The scientific name refers to the spotted dorsal pattern (Reptile Database diagnosis).

The type locality is Manado, and the species lays eggs. It belongs to the Draco lineatus group but is distinguished by its membrane colours, absence of a dark mark between the eyes in males, and variable scale covering of the eardrum. The opened taxonomic sources did not provide species-specific diet, forest stratum, gliding distances, clutch size or incubation, so these are omitted (Reptile Database; McGuire and colleagues 2007).
