Hebius sarasinorum

Basic stats

Habitat

Recorded at about 1,200m

Range

Southwestern Sulawesi, Indonesia

Sarasin's keelback is a Sulawesi natricine described by George Boulenger in 1896. Older scientific literature called it Tropidonotus sarasinorum or Amphiesma sarasinorum; it is now placed in Hebius following a modern revision of Asian keelbacks. The recorded type locality is on Mount Lompobatang, historically written Mount Bonthain, in southwestern Sulawesi, and the designated lectotype is held in Basel (Reptile Database).

The species has been recorded at roughly 1,200 m and lays eggs. A 2008 paper reported newly discovered specimens, but the opened catalogue did not expose the full diagnostic description or provide direct diet, microhabitat, activity, body-length range, clutch size or incubation. This entry therefore retains the verified highland locality, nomenclatural history and reproductive mode without applying the ecology of better-known stream-dwelling Hebius species (Reptile Database reference list).
