Oligodon waandersi

Reptile Database Snake Checklist

Oligodon waandersi

Basic stats

Range

Sulawesi, Buton and Sula islands

Size

Up to 33.5cm snout–vent length

Bleeker's kukri snake reaches about 33.5 cm from snout to vent. It is brown above with a few dark-edged spots along the vertebral line, usually a dark blotch below the eye and a whitish collar across the neck. Its two postoculars, lack of a loreal scale and 146–176 ventrals help separate it from the similar Oligodon tolaki (Reptile Database diagnosis).

The species occurs on Sulawesi, Buton and the Sula Islands and lays eggs. Its type locality is the Bone region of Sulawesi. A 2021 revision narrowed the species concept after comparing type material and separating southeastern populations as O. tolaki. The opened sources did not provide direct prey, habitat, activity, clutch size or incubation data, so these remain unreported (Reptile Database; Amarasinghe and colleagues 2021).
