Rabdion grovesi
Range
South Sulawesi, Indonesia
Size
Holotype about 52cm including tail
Groves' pointed snake was described in 2015 as the second recognised Rabdion species. Its adult male holotype measured 49 cm from snout to vent with a relatively short tail, giving a total length of about 52 cm. In preservative it has a bluish-grey back and a yellow, wavy stripe along the lower side, plus 192 ventral and 19 subcaudal scales (Reptile Database diagnosis).
The type came from Awan Village in Tana Toraja, South Sulawesi, at 2,150 m. Compared with R. forsteni, it has a broader, shallower, rounded snout shield, a different arrangement of nasal and temporal scales, more ventrals, fewer subcaudals and a proportionally shorter tail. The opened original-description summary did not establish diet, activity, habitat beyond locality, or reproduction (Reptile Database; Amarasinghe and colleagues 2015).
