Pseudorabdion torquatum

Basic stats

Range

Makassar, Sulawesi

Size

Lectotype 22.7cm snout–vent length

Pseudorabdion torquatum is a small Sulawesi reed snake whose adult male lectotype measures 22.7 cm from snout to vent. Members of its genus lack temporal scales, retain internasals and prefrontals, have five or six upper lip scales, five lower lip scales, 15 dorsal rows at midbody and an undivided anal plate. The type material came from Makassar (Reptile Database diagnosis).

The species lays eggs and is known from only two historical syntypes. It was placed in synonymy with P. longiceps for much of the twentieth century before a 2016 revision restored it as a distinct species, although the database notes that their relationship still lacks molecular evidence. No direct habitat, diet, activity, clutch or incubation information was available (Reptile Database; Vogel and colleagues 2016).
