Oligodon tolaki
Range
Southeast Sulawesi
Size
Up to 34cm snout–vent length
The Tolaki kukri snake was described in 2021 from southeast Sulawesi. It reaches 34 cm from snout to vent and has a short tail. The brown back bears a few dark-edged spots anteriorly, a reddish-brown vertebral line runs over the rear body and tail, and a pale collar is broken at the middle. A dark blotch usually sits below the eye (Reptile Database diagnosis).
The type came from Mount Mekongga at 1,097 m; other specimens were collected near montane forest and in the Lambusango area of Buton. Diagnostic traits include one postocular and loreal, 15 smooth dorsal rows, 150–169 ventrals and 18–26 subcaudals. The name honours the Tolaki people of southeast Sulawesi. Diet, activity and reproduction were not established in the opened sources (Amarasinghe and colleagues 2021).
